Capello drops Walcott and Milner hint
England boss Fabio Capello has singled out Wayne Rooney, James Milner and Theo Walcott as the players who have the greatest impact when on international duty.
Before Capello’s statement, Manchester United striker Rooney was the only player of the three who was almost guaranteed a spot but it now seems as if both Walcott and Milner will be joining him on the plane to South Africa.
Arsenal winger Walcott endured a difficult start to the season, with injuries hampering his opportunities, but now seems to be back to full fitness and has forced his way back into the Gunners first team.
Milner has been in electric form for Aston Villa all season and many had suggested he will be a part of Capello’s plans, and now the Italian boss has dropped his biggest hint yet that Milner will be travelling to South Africa.
”Last year it was Walcott, he was very important for us in the World Cup qualifiers,” said Capello.
”This year the player who has most improved has been Milner. He played three or four games with us and forms part of the national team.
”The other who has been crucial is Rooney because this year he has scored a lot of goals, and he has done so for us as well,
”He has been very impressive. I hope he maintains this form for South Africa.”
England face Algeria, USA and Slovenia in World Cup Group C, with the Three Lions heavy favourites to progress to the knock-out stages.
