Manchester City defender Nedum Onuoha says he is considering whether to ask if he can play for Nigeria in a bid to feature in this summer’s World Cup.

The 23-year-old has represented England at Under-21 level but finds himself behind a number of players in the pecking order to feature in Fabio Capello’s squad.

However, having featured in the last two games for City the centre back hopes he might be able to play his way into contention for Nigeria’s World Cup squad.

Ferguson hopeful over Rooney return

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is hopeful Wayne Rooney could be on the bench for Sunday’s game at Blackburn.

United’s topscorer this season picked up an ankle injury during the 2-1 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League last Tuesday and had to sit out last weekend’s clash with Chelsea.

Reports on Monday had indicated that Rooney could make a surprise comeback to the side for the return leg against Bayern on Wednesday night.

Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has admitted that winning the title this time around would be far sweeter than it was in 2006, the last time the Blues picked up the crown.

The London side are currently in the driving seat in the title race after their 2-1 defeat of Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday lunchtime. This has put the Blues two points above United at the summit of the Premier League and they are 1.67 favourites to net the title with Betfair.

Chelsea lead way in Premier League title race

Chelsea took the initiative in the Premier League title race on Saturday after recording a 2-1 success against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Didier Drogba came off the bench to fire home the winner as United clearly suffered without their inspirational striker, Wayne Rooney. Joe Cole had put Chelsea in the lead in the first half before Drogba doubled the visitors’ advantage. Federico Macheda pulled one back for the Red Devils nine minutes from time but there was to be no comeback on the cards.

Wenger spies contract talks

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has admitted that he will sit down with the Gunners board to discuss his future over the summer, despite having another year left on his contract. His side are currently 7.8 to win the title with Betfair.

Wenger has been credited with reviving the fortunes of the North London side during his 14 year tenure at the club. However, he has also not won a trophy with the Gunners for five years and believes that it will be difficult to leave now without some silverware.
