Will Wayne Rooney move to Manchester City? Betting specials analysis and tips
In the last few days, a number of bookmakers have listed odds for Wayne Rooney to leave Manchester United. Manchester City are the current 7/4 favourites (Totesport) to be Rooney’s destination club should he get his wish to leave United.
The odds for Rooney to leave the club in the January transfer window are just 1/2 with Betfred, showing how likely the bookies feel that Rooney is going to leave. If you think that Rooney will stay beyond the January window, then you can get a best price of 2/1 with Totesport.
Rooney only has 18 months left on his contract, so it would appears likely that if he is going to leave, it will be in January so that United can maximise any fee they would receive for him. It is likely that the fee will be no more than £20m-£25m, with United in no great bargaining position as Rooney can buy out his contract for £5m in the summer using the ‘Webster ruling’.
In reality there are only really 4 clubs in contention for Rooney, these being Manchester City, Chelsea, Barcelona and Real Madrid. It would appear very unlikely that any other clubs will have the financial clout or ambition to match that of a star like Wayne Rooney, although Inter Milan could be a live outsider.
The odds for Rooney to move to these clubs are:-
Wayne Rooney to join Manchester City 7/4 Totesport
Wayne Rooney to join Real Madrid 7/2 Stan James
Wayne Rooney to join Barcelona 8/1 Betfred
Wayne Rooney to join Chelsea 8/1 Victor Chandler
Wayne Rooney to join Inter Milan 20/1 Betfred
There are very strong rumours that Rooney could move to City and with good reason. City have tried to build a core of good English players with signings such as James Milner and Adam Johnson, but still lack a real marquee English talent. Rooney would fill this gap and increase the global awareness of Manchester City, whilst providing City with an ideal chance to prove they have overtaken United as a power in English football.
There has been no word from Rooney himself, but there is much speculation that he wouldn’t be keen to uproot his family and that a move within England is most likely. If this is the case then City would surely be prepared to go the extra mile and offer a much bigger deal than Chelsea, who have toned down their spending in the last couple of years, so City would definitely appear to be the most decent bet in this market.
The next few weeks will be very interesting, United fans will be hoping that Rooney can patch up his differences with Fergie and sign a new contract. City fans will be hoping that Rooney gives some positive noises about joining them and hooking up with his old mate Carlos Tevez. There will probably be some massive swings in the betting markets in the next few weeks dependant on events, so keep your eye closely on Best Bet Advice for all the news and updates.

Good post but I think Wayne Rooney really needs to step up his play a bit. Doesn’t seem like he’s got that many goals in him since his return last month.
