Tiger fails to honour promise

Despite Tiger Woods promising to keep a lid on his emotions, he failed to honour this commitment during his third round performance at the Masters.

Woods is still in contention in Augusta but the pressure is starting to take its toll. At the sixth, when he was three shots behind Westwood, he fluffed his tee shot, which lead him to cry out “Tiger Woods, you suck god damnit!”

All-English final pair at Augusta

Ian Poulter is refusing to allow himself look too far ahead but will be in a final all-English pair for his third round at the Masters.

The English golfer currently shares a tie of the lead at Augusta with compatriot Lee Westwood after shooting a 68 on day two to go to eight-under-par, which could have been even better had he not bogeyed the final hole.

Westwood delighted with first round

Lee Westwood stated he was very happy with his performance as he shot his best ever round at the Masters to sit one shot off the leader Fred Couples.

The Worksop golfer hit a five-under-par 67 on day one at Augusta, which included four birdies in the last seven holes and seven in total.

McIlroy exudes confidence in Masters bid

Rory McIlroy is confident he can become the youngest-ever Masters champion with a top display at Augusta this week.

The 21-year-old Irishman is making his second trip to Augusta and is buoyed by the fact he finished 20th on his debut, despite some far from encouraging recent form.

After starting the season strongly, he has missed one cut and finished way off the pace in his last three tournaments and as a result has drifted to outside the world top ten.

Else focused on Green Jacket

Ernie Els will head to the Masters this week in search of the biggest prize to elude him so far in his career, the Green Jacket.

Els is currently experiencing his best form for a number of years and has won the two biggest tournaments so far this season at Doral and Bay Hill.

However Els could not banish thoughts of the Masters, even when on the final hole at Bay Hill.

“It’s always in my head this time of the year. You try and downplay it, but you do think about it,” Els said.

Woods Set for Masters Return

Tiger Woods has confirmed he will return to action at The Masters next month, ending his self-imposed four-month exile from golf.

There had been a number of rumours that Woods would return to competitive competition at next week’s Tavistock Cup, or the Arnold Palmer invitational a couple of days later.

However, the 34-year-old has opted to return at the first major of the year at Augusta looking for his fifth win at the course having last put on the famous Green Jacket in 2005.
