Webber takes pole as big names struggle

Mark Webber managed to best cope with the difficult weather conditions in Malaysia to take pole position while some of the big names struggled during qualifying.

The Red Bull driver recorded the fastest lap by 1.3 seconds to take pole position ahead of Nico Rosberg from Mercedes and Webber’s teammate Sebastian Vettel.

Hamilton unsure about qualifying hopes

Lewis Hamilton dominated both practice sessions ahead of this weekend’s Malaysian Grand Prix but he still doesn’t believe that he can challenge for pole in Saturday’s qualifying. He is 5/1 second-favourite to get pole.

The former World Champion believes that qualifying will be tough on the sweltering Sepang circuit and that tactics may play a huge part over who will succeed.

Jenson on the Button at Australian Grand Prix

Jenson Button won his first race of the new Formula One season by taking the Australian Grand Prix for the second season in a row. His odds have now been shortened to 8/1 to take the 2010 Drivers’ Title.

As predicted, the weather played a massive part in the race as showers before the start caused the teams to quickly switch to intermediates in order to deal with the dampness of the track.

Vettel prepared for close contest

Sebastian Vettel is expecting a tough race in the Australian Grand Prix on Sunday despite having secured pole position ahead of team mate Mark Webber.

The German produced three brilliant drives on Saturday, leading at the end of all three sessions as he picked up from where he left off in qualifying in Bahrain.

Vettel finished 0.116 seconds ahead of Red Bull team mate and home favourite Webber, with Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso in third a long way clear of world champion Jenson Button who was fourth.

Hamilton leads way in Friday's practice session in Melbourne

The second race of the Formula One season is upon us and all eyes have turned to Melbourne to see if Fernando Alonso can make it two wins in a row.

However, Lewis Hamilton, who finished third in Bahrain last time out, was fastest in the final practice session before Saturday’s qualifying. This has seen Alonso’s odds lengthen to 3/1 whilst Hamilton’s odds have shortened to 6/1 to win the race.
