Chiefs bring in front-row strength

Springboks change two

South Africa have made only two changes to their side ahead of their second Tri-Nations match against New Zealand in Wellington on Saturday (South Africa 9/4 to win Tri Nations).

The Springboks went down 32-12 in the opening match of the competition and were outplayed throughout with the All Blacks running in four tries while all South Africa?s points came from the boot of fly half Morne Steyn.

Botha out of Tri Nations

South Africa’s chances of retaining their Tri-Nations crown have taken a major blow after lock Bakkies Botha was banned for the rest of the tournament for a head butt (South Africa 9/4 to win the Tri Nations).

 

The incident took place thirteen minutes into the opening match between the Springboks and New Zealand, and video footage showed Botha diving onto All Blacks scrum half Jimmy Cowan and butting the back of his head.

Smit embarrassed by All Blacks hammering

South Africa captain John Smit has admitted he was upset by the nature of the Springboks’ 32-12 Tri-Nations defeat to New Zealand (1.55 to win the tournament with Betfair) at Eden Park.

The All Blacks are now the odds on favourites to win the Tri-Nations after their convincing victory over the World Champions in the opening game of the tournament.

Nonu set for All Blacks return

New Zealand (6/5 to win the Tri Nations) head coach Graeme Henry has selected Ma’a Nonu for his side’s Tri Nations series opener against South Africa on Saturday.

The All Blacks will play the Springboks on June 10 in Auckland and the following weekend on June 17 in Wellington.

Nonu returns to the side to add more experience to the centre position, however the hard runner has only played 70 minutes of rugby since recovering from a knee injury.

Henry backs Rokocoko

New Zealand head coach Graeme Henry has come out and backed Joe Rokocoko ahead of the Tri Nations series (New Zealand 5/4 to win the Tri Nations).

There were calls for Hosea Gear and Zac Guildford to be included in the squad after impressing for the New Zealand Maoris but Henry has defended his decision to include Rokocoko who played in the impressive wins over Wales and Ireland for the All Blacks.

Graham Henry has recalled four players for New Zealand, including Liam Messam, ahead of the Tri Nations series (New Zealand 6/5 to win the Tri Nations with bwin).

Messam has impressed the All Blacks coaches after featuring for the New Zealand Maoris in their victories against Ireland and England.

John Afoa, Corey Flynn and Ma’a Nonu have also been brought into the side to face South Africa and Australia.

England team manager Martin Johnson has elected to make two changes for Saturday’s second Test against Australia although he has again left Jonny Wilkinson on the bench (Australia 1.38 – Half-Time/Full-Time with Betfair).

Johnson, who won the World Cup with England in 2003, has drafted scrum-half Ben Youngs and Northampton lock Courtney Lawes into his XV.
