South Africa‘s hopes of getting their Tri-Nations bid back on track (10/1 To Win Outright with bet365) have been hit by the news that wing Jean de Villiers has been banned for two weeks following a dangerous tackle in the side’s defeat to New Zealand on Saturday.

The reigning world champions have made a poor start to the series having followed up an opening game defeat against the All Blacks (1/7 Outright with bet365) last week with a 31-17 reverse against the same opponents at the Westpac Stadium in Wellington. And their bid to secure a first Tri-Nations win against Australia (7/1) this coming weekend have been dealt a blow as De Villiers’ lifting tackle on New Zealand’s Rene Ranger was picked out by citing commissioner Scott Nowland.

De Villiers appeared in front of judicial officer Dennis Wheelahan on Sunday and was handed the punishment which means he must sit out next Saturday’s clash in Brisbane.
