New GB Davis Cup captain confirmed

Leon Smith has been confirmed as the new captain of the Great Britain David Cup team, after succeeding John Lloyd who left the post in March.

GB’s defeat to Lithuania led to Lloyd’s departure and Smith, the former coach of Andy Murray, will now take charge of the team for the clash with Turkey in March.

Defeat in that match would mean GB would drop to the lowest tier of the Davis Cup, the Europe/Africa Zone Group III, where they could face the likes of Malta, Moldova or Iceland.
